Northern Tier Buy Fresh Buy Local Chapter
The Northern Tier Buy Fresh Buy Local chapter is coordinated by the Northern Tier Cultural Alliance (NTCA), a folk arts support center with a history of activity designed to celebrate and document the cultural significance of agriculture in the region (ntculturalalliance.org). Northern Tier Buy Fresh Buy Local is a membership chapter designed to promote local food in a region of Pennsylvania which covers Wyoming, Susquehanna, Bradford, Sullivan, Tioga & Potter Counties.
Northern Tier Buy Fresh Buy Local is a chapter of the FoodRoutes Network (FoodRoutes.org) a nonprofit organization that coordinates over 68 Buy Fresh Buy Local chapters nationally and provides technical support to community groups working across the country.Our statewide partner is the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture (PASA)(www.pasafarming.org).
The goal of our Buy Fresh Buy Local programming is to make it easier for consumers to find, choose and appreciate great local foods.....and to support the farmers and lands which produce them.Our activities are designed to increase the demand, consumption and production of local foods - providing healthier food for all and supporting local agriculture.Improving access to local food through farmers markets, CSA’s, farm stands and other direct market opportunities is essential to this cause, as is encouraging the growth of local agriculture.We also encourage local processing of value-added foods, beverages and other farm products.
The chapter is producing and distributing a Local Foods Guide. Our "Guide to Farmers Markets in the Northern Tier" is available on this website and will be updated periodically. We hold meetings around the region to plan various events (check our News Center for updates).Please contact us if you would like to added to our email alert list.We are always looking for volunteers or partners to create events, hold farm tours and find new and creative ways to promote local food and farmers.
